Australia Day is a national holiday used to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.
As a part of the local Australia Day festivities, the Lions Club of Geelong Corio Bay, holds a Family Day event at Rippleside Park. This event combines static displays with activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The GMRG attend the event with a display of vehicles, uniforms, weapons and items commonly used by Australian Military Personnel and their allies. As a part of the official ceremonies the GMRG members march and fire a "fuer de jois", a firing party celebration.
