Aims & Objectives
The encouragement and pursuit of the study and research in military history, customs, traditions, dress, arms, equipment and kindred matters; the promotion of public interest and knowledge in these subjects and the preservation of historical military objects, with particular reference to the Armed Forces of Australia.
Organisation
The MHSAGB and the GMRG is administered by a member elected committee composing of president, secretary, treasurer and four committee members. AGM is held in July at the Geelong meeting rooms. All currently financial members are eligible to stand for office.
Branch Activities
Includes talks by guest speakers and members, films and discussions on the subjects of military history and collecting militaria. Displays are mounted at various venues. The year's syllabus is available from the Branch Secretary.
Geelong Military Re-enactment Group
As a sub-group of the MHSAGB this group participates in major events such as the Air Shows, Anzac Day and other services with re-enactments and displays including mock battles using blank ammunition and pyrotechnics.
Meetings
Branch meetings are usually held at 7.30pm on the first Friday of each month in the training room at AGB Group Consulting Engineers, 31 Barwon Terrace, South Geelong.
Membership
Intending members are asked to attend at least two Branch functions and obtain a recommendation from two financial members before submitting their application for membership to the Branch Secretary. The application is to be then approved by the executive Committee before any fees are due.
Membership is also open to Student and Junior (10 to 16 yrs) members. Members aged 10 to 14 yrs who wish to participate in the GMRG must have a participating adult member responsible for them in re-enactments.
Interests
Members are invited to indicate any aspects of military history in which they are particularly interested. This will be shown on membership lists to allow members with similar interests to make contact. Please indicate your interests on the back of the application form.
Fees
GMRG membership only is $35.00 for an adult, $20.00 of the fee is for insurance.
If you have current re-enactment insurance it will only be $15.00. you must forward with your firearms licence a copy of your current insurance card.
