Safety Orders.
These Safety Orders are intended to be the minimum safety standard to be applied for GMRG activities.
These Safety Orders are used in conjunction with the ALHF Safety Principles.
Nothing replaces good old commons sense.

General.
- Safety is the responsibility of each and every member of the GMRG and any participating members of other re-enactment organizations.
- It is the responsibility of all members and participants to familiarise themselves with these safety orders.
- Only financial members of the GMRG shall participate in any re-enactments including rehearsals unless by specific invitation.
- Two overall safety officers will be appointed for all events. It is his /her responsibility to enforce these safety rules. It is also the responsibility of all participants to adhere to these rules and readily accept all directions from safety officers and section leaders.
- Each section leader will be responsible for the members of his/her section.
- A safety briefing will be undertaken before all events and no member will participate in the event without attending the briefing. A debrief will be undertaken after all events and no member will leave without attending these debriefings.
- Weapons will not be fired at any individual or group. A safety distance of 5 metres will be maintained between firers. For the sake of realism some firing will take place close to individuals. This will only occur when choreographed and previously organized by those individuals.
- Only members with shooters licences suitably endorsed with “performing arts and re-enactment” will be able to fire weapons.
- Junior members must be supervised by a licensed adult member.

Weapons.
- All weapons will be in a safe and serviceable condition.
- All weapons will be pulled through before any event and inspected before the event by either the section commander or safety officer.
- All weapons will be picketed at all times, locked up in an approved spot or carried by the individual. If being carried they will be carried slung or in a safe manner. They must never be pointed directly at anyone or used in an outlandish or unruly fashion. This applies to imitation firearms as well.
- Pistols will only be used by those who have the appropriate licence and attached to a lanyard either tied to the user or located around the user’s neck.
- Bayonets will only be removed from scabbards when ordered or approved to do so by the section commander or safety officer. There will be no unauthorised use of bayonets.
- All section commanders will inspect their members webbing before an event for unauthorised ammunition.
- No member will bring any form of unauthorised ammunition to an event. All blank brought to an event will be inspected by at least two nominated personnel.
- Only nominated personnel will issue and inspect blank ammunition. After the blank has been inspected by the safety officers it can by issued by the nominated personnel.
- All weapons will be inspected and cleared at the end of and event. Section commanders are responsible for this.
- All blank not used will be returned to the issuer at the end of the events. This is not applicable to blank which is supplied and paid for by the user.

Degrees of Weapon Readiness.
- All members or participants will familiarise themselves with these states.
- UNLOAD. No rounds in the chamber or magazine.
- LOAD. Rounds in the magazine but none in the chamber.
- ACTION. Round in chamber, weapon cocked, safety applied and finger outside trigger guard.
- INSTANT. Safety off, finger outside trigger guard.
- All section commanders will make sure all members are familiar with the commands and use them during an event.
- Unauthorised discharges [UD’s] will not be tolerated and an investigation will be conducted by the safety officers.

Rocket Launchers.
- Rocket launcher operators will not point the weapon at any individual or in the direction of spectators. A safety distance of 5 metres in front and rear of the weapon will be maintained.
- States of weapon readiness to be used are.
- Unload – no rocket in the weapon.
- Load – rocket in the tube, no wires connected. Check safe, finger outside trigger guard.
- Action – Rocket in tube, wires connected, safety applied.
- Instant – Rocket in tube, wires connected No2 facing same direction as No1.
- Fire – As for instant and No2 has tapped No1 on helmet, yelled “BBDA CLEAR”, safety removed and trigger depressed and held down until explosion takes place. [BBDA= Back Blast Danger Area].
- Misfire action.
- Misfire yelled by No1 and No2.
- Weapon will be held in the same direction as blast was meant to be.
- Trigger released and safety applied. No 1 yells “ safety on”
- No2 disconnects the wires and withdraws the rocket, keeping head turned away at all times.
- Rocket will be thrown clear of the crew and other members by No2. The rocket is to be handled by the fins at all times.
- Rocket launcher crew will wear hearing protection [ear plugs] and helmets.
- Electrical initiated firing circuits will be checked by the appointed armourer prior to the events.

Mortars.
- Safety arcs for mortars will be checked by all participating members and will not be entered during the event unless authorised to do so by a sergeant or safety officer.
- All mortar crew, safety officers and NCOs will familiarise themselves with the mortar safety line safety precautions as per GMRG duties in action.

Vehicles.
- Any member riding in the back of vehicles will remain inside the vehicle at all times. [ not to be on the tail gate ].
- No one will dismount from the vehicle until the vehicle has stopped and the driver has authorised them to dismount.
- All vehicles are to travel at a safe speed and distance at all times.
- Ammunition and pyrotechnics are not to be carried in any vehicle which is transporting personnel.
- Drivers of vehicles are in charge of all passengers. Passengers will adhere to driver orders.
